Admissions Process

We accept applications on a rolling basis until all of our classes are full. If a waitlist is established, applicants are looked at on a "first come first considered" basis and class composition will play a part in accepting students from the waitlist. Submitting an application and paying the application fee is required in order to be placed on a waitlist should that apply.

Age Requirements for the 2019-2020 School Year:

Please review the following age requirements before applying to SWS. Children born in late May or early June are considered to be "on the cusp" in a Waldorf School. Parents should be aware that children "on the cusp" may be interviewed by more than one teacher to determine the best placement. The birth dates below serve as a guideline, however the ultimate decision will lie with the class teacher. The child's placement is not only based on academic ability but also on the best social fit for your child and is undertaken with great care, and with the whole child in mind.

At SWS our admissions process consists of the following steps:

1. Application:

Complete the application form and submit it to the school with the non-refundable $200 application fee for each child from Preschool to Grade Eight. Our Parent & Child program does not have an application fee. If the child has been at another school please attach any report cards and assessments. Application forms can be found here.

2. Interview:

The Admissions office will arrange for an interview betwen you, your child and a teacher. At the same time an assessment may be made to determine the proper placement. Interviews for summer applications will be subject to teacher availability during the summer break.

3. School Visit:

If you would like for your child(ren) to visit the classroom, arrangements are made through the Admissions office. Classroom visits are only conducted after an application has been submitted with the fee, and an interview has been completed.

4. Acceptance:

The teacher will then make a decision based on all of the information gathered. This includes the interview with the parents and student, the assessment, reports from previous schools, and consideration of how the new student will fit into the class.  As soon as possible you will be informed as to whether your child has been accepted into the class. Upon acceptance to SWS a non-refundable deposit of $500/family is due immediately. The deposit will be deducted from the annual tuition payment.

5. Financial Arrangements:

Once the deposit has been received the Office Manager will contact you to make the financial arrangements for registration and tuition payments. The tuition fees and schedule for the 2018-2019 school year can be viewed here:

6. Admission:

After returning the tuition agreement and completing the financial arrangements your child(ren) may now attend classes.

7. Probationary Period:

All new children are on a probationary period.  This period can be extended by request, in writing, by either the parents or teacher. Once the probationary period is complete a 14-day written notice is required to withdraw. In the event a child is withdrawn without the required 14 days notice, the responsible party(ies) will be required to pay the outstanding fees to cover the 14-day withdrawal notice period.

Sunrise Waldorf School has Class Parent evenings, Waldorf Education talks, Parent Association meetings, festivals, assemblies and more, all of which are listed on our calendar. All parents are expected to participate and volunteer.
